Ahmad Jafari to Receive NFFC DIsney Legend Award6/12/2006 4:15 AM ESTThe NFFC is pleased to announce that Imagineer Ahmad Jafari will receive the NFFC Disney Legend Award this July.
Ahmad began his Disney career in 1966 in the engineering department at Disneyland. It wasn't long before theme park executive Dick Nunis suggested that Ahmad could contribute more to the organization and suggested he move to Imagineering. An architect by trade, Ahmad made the move to WDI in 1969. He spent the next couple of years working on various Disneyland projects, including contributing to Disneyland's 10-year master plan. For Walt Disney World, he designed the Canada and Morocco pavilions at Epcot and the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village (now The Marketplace portion of Downtown Disney). Ahmad was the Park Master Planner and Project Architect for Frontierland and Adventureland in Disneyland Paris; he spent four years in France supervising the working drawings and site construction. He also was the project design director (responsible for master planning, concept and design development) for Disney's Animal Kingdom and designed the Hotel MiraCosta at Tokyo DisneySea. His final job before retiring form Disney was as principal concept architect for Hong Kong Disneyland. In addition to responsibilities for the entire park, he was directly responsible for design of the castle and of the Lion King Theater and Philharmagic Theater.
Ahmad will receive his award at the annual Luncheon with a Disney Legend, to be held this year on Saturday, July 15, at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Garden Grove, California (just down the street from Disneyland). The Luncheon is part of the 2006 national Convention, and Conventioneers attending the luncheon will have a chance to hear Walt talk about his fabled career.
Ahmad joins the more than 75 previous recipients of the award; honorees have contributed to every facet of the Disney legacy.
