Disney Legend X. Atencio To Appear at Sacramento "Pirates" Event

5/11/2007 5:06 PM EST

Disney fans in the Sacramento area can celebrate the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and meet legendary Disney artist and Imagineer X. Atencio at a special event on May 19.

X. Atencio spent 47 years at Disney, first as an animator. His credits include Fantasia and the celebrated short subjects "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom," "Noah's Ark" and "A Symposium on Popular Songs." He also helped animate titles and sequences on some live-action films, including Mary Poppins and The Parent Trap.

In 1965, Walt asked X to stretch his talents by relocating to Imagineering, to assist in the creation of the Primeval World diorama for Disneyland. He went on to help develop dialogue and music for such attractions as Adventure thru Inner Space, the Haunted Mansion (for which he co-wrote the song "Grim Grinning Ghosts"), and Pirates of the Caribbean (for which he wrote "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Me").

In addition to X's appearance, the event will include a pirate buried-treasure hunt, a costume contest, exclusive merchandise and more. The event is scheduled for noon until 4:00 p.m., and will take place at Stage Nine, 102 K St. in Old Sacramento.
