It’s Official: We Have a New Name!
During the October 3, 2009 NFFC Board of Directors meeting, President Gary Schaengold announced that the California Secretary of State's office had approved the Certificate of Amendment changing our corporate name from National Fantasy Fan Club, Inc. to Disneyana Fan Club, Inc.
The next step in the process is to register the old and new names, as well as NFFC and DFC, with the Clerk of Court for Orange County, California. “As we look to the future in marketing who we are and what we do, it remains important to respect the heritage of our past,” Schaengold said. “By retaining ownership of the old name, and for now including it in association with our new name, we retain fond memories and build on our new experiences at the same time.”
With the trade name registration process nearly completed, we have begun the process of rolling out the new name. In about a year’s time the Board, working together with our chapters and interested members, will complete the transition from NFFC to the Disneyana Fan Club.
During the transition, NFFC will be known as NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club, a change you may have already noticed in the Dispatch masthead.
Logo Contest
With our new name comes the need for a new logo. Who better to ask what the new logo should look like than our own members?
Get your crayons and computers ready! We want to see what your ideas for a new logo for the Disneyana Fan Club should look like. Create the winning design and you could attend the 2010 NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Convention for free, or receive a free five-year family membership.
Guidelines:
Keep it simple. Our logo has to compete with hundreds of thousands of other attention-grabbing devices that we’re all bombarded with daily.
Additionally, a good logo should be easily recognizable when reduced to a small size (see the examples below). The more detail you fill a logo with, the more strain you place on people’s eyes, and the less likely they are to pay much attention to it.
Think Apple, Nike, McDonalds, Shell, Swatch.

Each of these very recognizable logs has been reduced to a width of 110 pixels.
The final version of the new logo will need to be in vector-based computer graphic form.
Where possible, submissions should be in .png, or .jpg file formats for review.
Computer graphic entries must be editable, and be able to be broken down into their individual component parts.
Computer graphic entries must use scaleable fonts if using text as part of the design. This means no bit mapped fonts.
Keep in mind that following the transition we will no longer use our transitional name. We will be known simply as Disneyana Fan Club.
But, what if I don’t have a computer, graphic software, or I don’t know how to use a computer to draw?
Not to worry!
You can sketch your design on paper and submit it via standard mail, or scan it and submit it via e-mail. To the best of our abilities, the NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Media Relations and Communications (MR&C) Committee will translate your drawing into computer graphic form, and, if the computerized version of your entry is selected, you will be declared the winner.
Details and fine print:
All entries must be submitted to the NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Media Relations and Communications Committee by midnight, December 31, 2009.
Entries can be emailed to chuck.obe@nffc.org or mailed to:
NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Logo Contest
P.O. Box 19212
Irvine, CA 92623-9212.
The NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club MR&C Committee will review, and adapt if necessary, all submissions and prepare a recommendation for the Board of Directors.
The Board will have the opportunity to review all submissions, along with those recommended by the MR&C Committee.
After the full board has had a sufficient period of time to review all entries, the winner will be announced during the first board meeting following completion of the review process.
In order to be eligible to submit an entry for consideration, you must be a current NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club member in good standing.
All entries become the sole property of NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club.
All entries are subject to editing and modification.
Convention prize package includes all regularly scheduled seminars and convention events, but does not include hotel accommodations, transportation, special ticketed meal events, or theme park admission.
Membership prize package begins with the next renewal of your family membership.
Heritage Luncheon Registration Open!
Celebrating Disney's storied past, and the lives and careers of those who helped make it all possible, remains the core mission of the NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club.
On January 16, 2010, NFFC - Disneyana Fan Club will inaugurate a new award, The NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Heritage Award, to honor individuals outside the Walt Disney Company who have made significant contributions to promoting awareness of, along with the preservation of, Disney history.
Our first honoree, Leonard Maltin, is just such a person. In addition to his internationally best selling series of books, Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide, Mr. Maltin's other works include Of Mice and Magic: A History of American Animated Cartoons, The Disney Films and the television special Fantasia: The Creation of a Disney Classic.
Mr. Maltin is also active in the home entertainment field, hosting and producing, among other titles, the popular series of Walt Disney Treasures DVDs.
Following the luncheon and awards program, Mr. Maltin will autograph one item for each NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Heritage Award Luncheon guest.
How did what were once the most popular cartoons on earth (the Mickey shorts, for example) come to be seen as a boutique item of limited interest which should only be released in limited edition format? Thanks to Leonard Maltin’s determined advocacy to get the material released at all, we now have the Disney Treasures home video series.
Join us as we ask Mr. Maltin - of the cartoons not starring the Fab 5 (the Silly Symphonies and such) - how did you decide which films to choose? What got left out and why and was there much restoration required?
Most of the Oswald shorts and the Alice cartoons are lost. How did Disney track down those that survive?
How did Disney decide to “package” cartoons which are now seen as controversial, such as the Der Fuehrer’s Face, and to tell the story of Walt's WWII cartoons, including the propaganda and training films?
Please plan to join us and our remarkable guest and honoree, Leonard Maltin, for a fascinating program about rediscovering, evaluating, and preserving the earliest and rarest works of Walt Disney Productions.
The NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Heritage Award Luncheon honoring Leonard Maltin, will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 12:00 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza Anaheim Resort, 12021 Harbor Blvd., Garden Grove, CA
Tickets for The NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Heritage Award Luncheon are $55 for NFFC members and $85 for nonmembers.
Mr. Maltin’s autograph session following the luncheon will be strictly limited to luncheon attendees.

About NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club
NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich legacy of Walt Disney and his company of brilliant artists and storytellers. Our common goal is to provide Disneyana enthusiasts of all ages from around the world with news, information, and events that enhance their experience with, and love of, all things Disney.
This goal is achieved through the publication of a member newsletter, the FantasyLine Express, and by hosting national and international members, along with local NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club Chapters, where members can trade information, learn more about their favorite collectables, hold group outings and activities, and just have fun!
We are equally dedicated to sharing Walt Disney’s artistic legacy as well as Disney magic with those in need. Through a series of charitable fund-raising events, the NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club helps to support inner-city arts programs and to assist families and children affected by major illness to find a little happiness at Disney parks around the world.
By far, the biggest and most popular means of expanding the magic are the NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club All Disneyana Conventions, where members are informed and entertained by Imagineers, animators, entertainers, authors, and artists from every facet of the Walt Disney Company, along with many independent Disney experts. Additionally, the NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club All Disneyana Show and Sales, which are open to the public, provide vast exposure to Disneyana and an unparalleled experience for autograph collectors.
